What Arsenal managed to prove with the win against Manchester United is that it is the 3rd best team in England.
Arsenal have what seems to be half a spine for the future. Wojciech Szczesny could become an awesome goalkeeper, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey are two energetic, determined midfielders any team in the world would love to have. Robin Van Persie and Samir Nasri could be called world class. Cesc Fabregas should be sold.
Arsenal, in its current state, can beat Manchester United and Chelsea. Not bad, not excellent. To win the English Premier League you need to beat “rugby teams” on muddy pitches and hold leads against human mountains, who thrive on physical battles.
Almost every football fan in the world and most Arsenal former players (From Ray Parlour thorough Emmanuel Petit to Dennis Bergkamp) understand that the foundations for a winning team are players like Martin Keown, Tony Adams, Steve Bould, Sol Campbell or Patrick Vieira. Fighters, unsung heroes, experienced gladiators. Players like Scott Parker and Gary Cahill are on the market.
The competition for these players in the summer will be intense. Chelsea and Manchester United are always looking out for them. Manchester City with their bags of money are always interested. Liverpool, with an owner who wants to win the title will compete in the transfer market. Tottenham might join in.
If Arsenal wants to win anything it must win the competition in the transfer market for the best physical players. It will cost money but send the right message: Â 3rd place is not good enough.
WHAT TO DO NOW?
