Do Barcelona need Fabregas?

This is a sign of the Barcelona greatness. Addressing problems before they have surfaced

Do Barcelona need Fabregas?

I am avoiding the post-Xavi future and the Catalan identity issues. The future and Spanish counter-federalist currents are vague issues right now.

It’s easy to say the Xavi and Iniesta are better football players than Fabregas. They have been playing together on a better team. They have not carried the mantle of being a team’s number one player. The one facing the double-team.

Fabregas brings qualities slightly lacking at Barca. The indirect free kick and a more direct approach. He has emphasized it with the national team when it was his past who unlocked the Dutch in the World Cup final.

But mainly he addresses Barcelona’s theoretical weakness. over-reliance on Messi’s scoring. Is it easy to say that if Messi was injured other players would step up and score. That is true. But La Liga has become a 100-point division. two-three weeks of scoring difficulties can cost you the title.

Barcelona’s two summer signings are addressing the problem. Fabregas with his more direct approach and Alexis Sanchez with his more individual style. This is a sign of a functioning empire. They are addressing problems before they have surfaced.
