Two goalkeepers from two major European clubs were lucky to avoid permanent damage to their heads and spines during the weekend.
PSV goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton sustained a concussion in his side’s 2-2 Eredivisie draw against Ajax on Sunday but escaped more serious injuries after an unfortunate clash with team-mate Timothy Derijck. Roma Dutch goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg reportedly avoided major injuries after getting kicked in the head during the Inter Milan clash on Saturday.
We all remember what happened to Petr Cech and with the game getting faster and faster and the players stronger, It’s only a matter of time before a goalkeeper is left paralyzed on the field following a collision with one of these modern beasts roaming around today’s football pitches.
Protection for goalkeepers should be mandatory. But what is FIFA doing for footballers’ safety? Well, this rotten body has banned snoods because “they can be dangerous”.
