Quality is The Word

Arsenal, right now, are too poor to buy someone cheap

Why didn’t Arsène Wenger buy Nuri Şahin? Well, Nuri goes to Liverpool on a one year loan for a £5m fee and more than £5m on wages. It’s worth to mention that Real Madrid bought him for just £8m and according to reports Liverpool have no option to buy the skillful midfielder.

Do Arsenal even need another midfielder? Not really. Wenger wanted Nuri because he is quality, but not at that price. Not for just a loan.

Do Arsenal need to spend? Yes. But on a defensive midfielder and a defender – or a quality utility man.

Quality is the key word this summer.

Did Arsenal buy quality this summer? Yes.

Santi Cazorla (£16.5m), Olivier Giroud (£13m) and Lukas Podolski (£11m) are quality.

It’s worth to mention that this is the first summer ever Arsenal bought three established internationals for more than £10m each.

I think that’s the spirit.  Arsenal, compared to their rivals, are too poor to buy someone cheap.
