Does Jose Mourinho want to emulate Barcelona?
Buying “number one target” Luka Modric means Real Madrid can play 4-1-2-3 with Xabi Alonso in the Sergio Busquets role, just behind Mesut Özil (in the Xavi role) and Modric (In the Andres Iniesta role).
In Barcelona, Busquets provides protection to the back four and an easy pass option for the “brain storming” creators – Xavi and Iniesta. With the two brainy play-makers, who activate the full-backs, two fast wingers/strikers and an unplayable superstar (Messi), Barcelona found it easy to smash almost every opposition in La Liga and Europe.
Perhaps that’s what Mourinho wanted to achieve by bringing in Modric, who together with Özil, will be the brain of Madrid’s attack. The big question now is: Can Modric & Özil emulate Xavi & Iniesta. If they would, Real Madrid can win it all.
