On His Days

Berbatov was a 70s legend, a bit lost in the Millennium

If it was the 1970′s or 1980′s Dimitar Berbatov would have been a legend. You see, those were the days of highlights. So footballers were judged on the wonderful things they did, not on the things they didn’t do. Like not press or not track back, or score every single week.

Berbatov scored on inspired moments and inspired games. Like four hat-tricks, even a five-trick.

But we are not in an era of inspiration. We are in the era of value for money. You can sell one Van Gogh and for the money employ 10 young artists and a full-time printing house and get 2-million pieces of art from Ikea for one Van Gogh.

But for me. Give me a Berbatov moment.
