Here are a few very interesting statistical anecdotes from this study: Moneyball Revisited: Effort and Team Performance in Professional Soccer.
1.) If a team increases the average running distance by one kilometer (relative to the opponent), the winning probability increases by 26-28%.
2.) Performing ten intensive runs more than the opponent increases the winning probability by 4%.
3.) When home teams put in the same level of effort in terms of running distance as their opponent, the winning probability is approximately 46%, while an away team at the same situation wins with a probability of only approximately 30%.
4.) The winning probability of away teams increases when they win more tackles than their opponent.
Run more, run more sprints and tackle better – and your chances of winning will get higher.
